Our miracle...part 3

Let me know tell you...we spent some real quality time in prayer over this decision.  Should we buy a house that had recently had a fire?  Would we be able to gut the house and renovate it without the insurance money?  Did we truly want to take on such a huge project at this point in our lives?  We had already renovated our previous 115 year old house, and I had said that I would never do it again.  BUT...I fell in love.  I could not let that house be completely destroyed.  My husband felt the same way, but was way more angry about the situation than I was.  We had been through so much.  He decided to offer the bank the exact amount of money we had invested in the house already at that point...about $3,500.  Yes.  You are seeing that number correctly.  Three thousand five hundred dollars.  He figured the bank would counter-offer what they really wanted out of the house.  We made the offer and then we waited.

I don't really remember how long it took for them to respond to our offer.  All I know is that they....drum roll....ACCEPTED IT.  Can you believe it?!  My husband called me and told me to sit down.  He proceeded to tell me that the bank accepted our offer of $3,500 as long as we signed off of any further responsibility on the banks behalf. We were buying a 3300 sq ft house on 3.5 acres for less than $4k.  Oh...and did I ever mention that there is also a 4+ car garage AND a small 4 horse stall barn attached to the garage??  THAT my friends was our MIRACLE.  Okay...I know the house was burned soaked not perfect. Garry and I knew it would be a very big project to renovate the house in it's current state.  But we felt that for all the trouble we had been through, this was God's blessing in disguise for us.  Our miracle.  And let me tell you...our friends couldn't believe we were actually going to still buy the house....and were double shocked when they found out we bought it for so little!
